DANCE TRANSLATIONS

AN Experimental translation of physical dance to Digital Code

As a community resident in the Collaborative Art + Technology Situation (CATS+) at the Museum of Human Achievement in Austin, TX, I collaborated with several artists and technologists to explore the intersections of technology, humanitarian chaos, and the physical world. Inspired by an algorithmic dance (spliced by AI directives) directed by Itai Almor and performed by members of the CATS+ team, I translated the physical dance into digital code to explore the boundaries of physical and digital communication and translation.

See more information about the residency at https://www.instagram.com/p/CqoMPjoPEBa/?img_index=1 and https://themuseumofhumanachievement.com/CATS.html .The translation code is available at https://github.com/kellyndassler/p5dance/blob/master/sketch2.js or https://drive.google.com/file/d/11JZuXCmiUakxny2dpuWqjrHIjSjmPHjE/view?usp=sharing .

Built by Kellyn Dassler (Javascript visual and code translator) with dance directed by Itai Almor (dance and video director, writer, brainchild) and performed by CATS+ Spring 2023 members.

Mediums: p5.js, algorithmic dance moves, and lots of 2D to 3D mental gymnastics
